Harvest Season – Celebrate Your Achievements

When the air is crisp and the leaves are quietly dancing their way down to the ground, nature reminds us once again that a cycle is coming to a finish. All indigenous cultures have a holiday related to the end of the growing season and the completion of the harvest. If we stay in harmony with nature's phases, we feel stronger, happier and more balanced. Most of us do not grow our own food anymore, but we work hard to sustain ourselves. We work too hard all year round. Often we run too fast, from one thing to the next, forgetting to nurture ourselves. This is a good time to slow down for a few minutes, a few hours, a weekend—whatever you can allow yourself, and celebrate your achievements. If you contemplate and acknowledge your successes, you will feel more fulfilled, happier and nurtured. And by the Law of Attraction, you will bring more good things into your life by expressing gratitude for what you have already accomplished.

Feng Shui Tips

In Feng Shui, West is the direction that relates to fall, completion and rewards, specifically, monetary rewards. I invite you to look at your home, business, or both and see what is going on in the Western sector.

  • If you feel that you work too hard and the rewards do not come easily, you should consider enhancing the Western sector of your home or business with Metal and Earth elements. Placing a beautiful and refined metal or ceramic accessory in this part of the building will strengthen the energy of this sector.
  • Make sure that energy is not stagnant in the West. For example, if you have a very heavy piece of furniture that never gets moved or is rarely used, energy becomes stale around it. It might be a good idea to move a few things around to change this. Also, if a room never gets used, the energy in it becomes stagnant. Simply opening the doors and windows to bring in some fresh air will help a little bit. Also, placing some fresh flowers, burning incense or playing music in the room works well to start moving the energy again.
  • It is not good to have clutter or broken things in the Western sector, but the good news is you can easily get rid of this! Things that you don't like, or never use, will contribute to creating unsupportive energy.
  • And, if you haven't done this yet, place a fall harvest arrangement (pumpkins, apples, mums, etc.) outside or inside your home in a place that you will often see. Make sure to put some meaning into this and it will remind you to celebrate your achievements every time you see it!

A Client's Story

For Jennifer Jarzynka, this fall represents the end of a cycle and the beginning of an exciting new one. I started working with Jennifer on her home in Sudbury in 2005. Her reason for calling was a feeling of unease in her house. There had been accidents, she was getting unexpected bills and some family members had developed health issues since moving into the house. During my assessment, I began to see a strong correlation between the Feng Shui of her home and the family's problems. My conclusion was that the best way to improve the energy in the home was to build an addition. This, however, was not feasible for Jennifer at the time so instead I gave some easy to implement, short term, solutions. The idea was to shift the energy as much as possible in the right direction, without doing a major renovation. A few months later, Jennifer wrote:

"My son had been experiencing health issues for about a year and within a few weeks after I implemented your advice he was feeling much better and within a few months they had completely disappeared. I could go on and on about all of the positive changes we have seen over the past 18 months. There have been differences in both the energy of the house and also the aesthetics. We've received so many compliments about the different colors and the changes in the furniture and accessories.

Recently, Jennifer called me and said that they would like to take things to the next level and build an addition. After doing some in depth research of the entire family's energy, and learning their needs and goals, I sat down with them to create a very personalized floor plan. Not only did it need to have good energy flow and good Feng Shui, but it also has to be supportive for every family member. This is a significant project, with the whole second floor and some parts of the first floor being new additions. With the floor plan we designed, Jennifer was able to communicate to the architect exactly what she wanted. After the architects created their drawings, we met once more to work out some details. It was very rewarding to see the whole family's excitement about their new home and I could see a happy family life for them in the years to come.
