A Fall Feng Shui Story from a Client

(The client's real name is not used for confidentiality)

Nancy called me in April. The major concern that she wanted to address with a Feng Shui consultation was her health. She was ill for nine years. “The illness just kept getting worse, i.e., panic attacks, shingles, stomach aches, headaches, my ears were ringing all the time I couldn’t sleep, basically my health was going downhill fast," she told me. A few months before she called me she actually found a wonderful doctor and new treatments that started to work, but, as she stated, “I started to get better, but I feel there is more to be done to help to complete my journey." After I completed my Feng Shui analysis using the Lo Pan Compass I found out that a major remodeling about nine years ago dramatically changed the energy of the house for the worse. This is when Nancy’s illness started and her husband left her soon after that. Truthfully, her case was one of the few that I wasn’t sure I could help without proposing another major remodeling or even moving out of the house, but Nancy was eager to give it a try. She did an amazing amount of work considering her health condition in a short period of time. Just in a few months she painted several rooms, did a lot of landscaping, and added new art and accessories to balance and enhance the energy of the areas that were affected. In the process she felt better and better. She brought me back twice after our initial consultation to work more on the finer details. Her creativity opened up so much that she is now considering starting a new career. She just can’t decide what she enjoys more: interior design or landscaping. Now the whole neighborhood is stopping by to see her beautiful yard with stone walls, water features, lights and garden statues. This is just a short list of the wonderful changes that took place.

A few days ago I received an email from Nancy. I was very pleased to hear from her and happy for all of the dramatic improvements in her life since we started to work together. However, there was one question that left me absolutely astonished. Here is what she said: “I can't tell you how much you have helped me to heal and find my way through all this mess... I am feeling much more confident about things now and I just think of you often... I hear your words in my head as I am moving around the house and yard… I have been getting much better health wise but am still having trouble clearing up the mouth sores. Could you help me with this, please?" I know some of you may be thinking “Come on, get real, you can’t fix everything with Feng Shui. This seems pretty unrelated." But wait… Not many of us know that Feng Shui is part of traditional Chinese medicine and Taoist Philosophy and there is a connection between the eight directions, body parts, five elements, family members, emotions, colors and much more.

The west direction, for example, relates to the mouth, metal element, youngest daughter, joy and fun. In fact, if energy in the west is not balanced, it might affect any of the things in the list above. According to Flying Star, a Classical Feng Shui technique that addresses a change of Chi in the building over time, in this year west is affected by malevolent energies and needs to be balanced with metal. In Nancy’s case, west was one of the directions that was affected the most, especially this year and she forgot to place the metal cure that I suggested there! She did several of the others, but forgot this particular one.

Besides placing this cure, I also suggested to have more fun and joy in her life to celebrate the completion of her work since this is the energy of the west and she was working so hard and seriously since the spring.

You might ask why I called this “A Fall Feng Shui Story." Interestingly, the season that corresponds to west is fall and its energy is completion! Everything comes to completion in the fall and so is my story now.

P.S. While I was writing this story I received an email from Nancy that she placed the metal cure in the west and three days later she got a diagnosis for her health problems and after many years of struggling with it and she now has a treatment plan: “… it brought in the knowledge that I have celiac disease and that is a severe gluten allergy causing the mouth sores and stomach troubles.... I just found out yesterday.... three days after I placed the cure!"

Dear Nancy, I wish you a full recovery and total happiness!

I will never stop being amazed at the way the universe works!

Feng Shui Tips

  • Fall in many cultures relates to harvesting and nourishing. In earlier times, and still today in indigenous cultures, people gather supplies of food to last through the winter. We are quite disconnected from that natural flow these days with everything available in the supermarkets, but nothing prevents us from collecting some good quality organic winter squashes, some potatoes and other root vegetables available at local farms and keeping them in a cold basement or garage for a few months. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and the quality and taste are always better than the same thing from the supermarket in the winter.
  • Since the fall is a period of completion, it is a good time to finish any uncompleted projects and to fix broken things. This might include your furniture and appliances as well as your work and creative projects. Especially make sure that your doors and windows are fixed.
  • If you need to enhance energy in the west to help you with completion of some stubborn project, these are several Feng Shui luck symbols that might be placed in the west: a painting of the White Tiger (he is the symbol of the west), a pair of elephants, a painting of Buddha with children, orchids, any refined art metal sculpture, black and white photography, calligraphy art, pictures of children, children’s art work or your own art work. There are plenty of choices to fit different personalities and environments.
  • Finally, don’t forget to nourish yourself more. If there was something that you wanted to do or get for yourself, don’t wait until next year. There is still time to do it this year. Think about how you can surround yourself with more love, joy, peace and contentment. And don’t forget to celebrate your achievements
